Wandering Thoughts

Image
It's been ages since I've posted on this digital wall and quite frankly, it feels like a new experience altogether writing again. It's been quite a struggle trying to come up with interesting topics, captivating words, sufficient writing man-hours, or even just a witty title to begin with. I'd love to get into a habit of posting regularly but for the next few months, I believe these brain cells of mine are going to be dedicated into that thing called STRAMA. Every once in a while though, I have this tendency to share some short blurbs concerning not-so-important stuff that interests this silly personality of mine. Humanity on Mars? A couple of weeks ago, I was able to catch the premiere of National Geographic's new part sci-fi/part documentary mini-series, "Mars". The show's main plot revolves around the minute possibility of colonizing the Red Planet. It is an intriguing and insane theory to say the least but in that fleeting moment, the astro

Royal Rumble Thoughts

Image
Save for NXT Takeovers, I don't think I've ever been as hyped up for a WWE pay-per-view as I was for this year's Royal Rumble. I guess the stipulation that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship being defended on the rumble itself on top of the countless rumors about surprising debuts/returns made the event doubly interesting and highly unpredictable. Exactly what we need given the current state of the WWE and the rash of injuries that has befallen its top stars *huhubells Seth Rollins*. Overall, it was an entertaining Rumble with several potential storylines being set-up for a culminating finale at Wrestlemania 32. Here are some of my thoughts regarding the 2016 WWE Royal Rumble.  *Pardon the large quantity of wrestling lingo and jargon. WHAT'S BEST FOR BUSINESS If you've been religiously following updates regarding the Rumble, then you might have correctly guessed that Roman Reigns and Triple H would be heavily involved in the ending and that's exactl

Next Year Will Be Better

Image
Several days ago, I had Spotify blasting through my earphones when the track "Next Year Will Be Better" from emo outfit Joie De Vivre randomly played. Immediately I thought --  "Whew, this would be an apt title for my first blog post for 2016 except for the fact that the actual lyrics doesn't really inspire much confidence in terms of getting better ." The song's littered with lines such as: "It's unfair to suggest that there is even a change that I get through this It's never been harder to feel better It's never been harder to tell if I've changed of if I've just grown up." This band's the culprit. I'm 100% sure I've used one of those lines as a social media status before. So yeah, while there was a point in time when these lyrics perfectly encapsulated all the horrendous shit that life hurled right at me, an increment in the calendar year, oftentimes, creates a renewed sense of hope and purpose --

"I think I'm growing into someone you could trust"

There's been quite a number of good albums released recently so I figured it'd be a nice time to share what these records are. My musical taste still predominantly revolves around the alternative/rock/pop/punk/emo scene although recently, someone's been sneakily injecting a healthy dose of M Countdown into my daily viewing schedule. ( Kaya pala familiar na yung "Fantastic, baby" sa kin. Bang Bang Bang! ) The Korean pop music invasion would have to wait for a while though so in the meantime, here are some tracks you should definitely check out. And since I'm a sucker for lyrical content, I'll include my favorite lines from each song. 1. I Don't Like Who I Was Then - The Wonder Years Might as well start with the song I used for the title post. I Don't Like Who I Was Then (from the band's latest effort,  No Closer To Heaven ) packs yet again the usual passion I've come to love with The Wonder Years. Liking a song due to a few stand-out

How the 29th was Celebrated

Image
August has always been a special month for me because of one obvious reason - it's that one day of the year where Facebook notifies my friends about an increment in my age. Yes, it's a special day but in terms of celebrations, I'd say that for the last couple of years, it's been hovering between lackluster and predictable. Mostly it's been lunch outs with the family or drinks with the boys or dinner dates. While this year wasn't entirely different, I'd say it was an interesting one due to the arrival of a new person and the departure of a dear one *sobs*. Oh, and there are the old reliables, of course. August 14, Friday A good friend from graduate school, who was also a Leo, sent out invites for a casual Friday dinner in commemoration of her nth birthday. I sure wasn't going to miss it especially knowing that the menu for that night was an assortment of mouth-watering sea creatures! We also got a pretty nifty surprise from our fellow classmates in

Take me back to that Sunday*

Image
Prologue It was a rainy Sunday morning when I trooped into the mall for a weekend rendezvous. Good thing I got into the mall just before the rain fell as my only protection from the downpour was my trusted red hoodie and its soft, fluffy fabric. I had recently lost my umbrella to an old lady, who had served her master for 80 years, living just right across our unit. She apparently had more need for it as it would allow her to use her money on food items instead of buying a parasol. Or at least, that's what my imaginative partner for this weekend thought so after I told her someone stole my umbrella. Clever. I arrived earlier than the agreed time and immediately noticed the activity area swarming with people thanks to an Oishi event. I'm not exactly a fan of big crowds so I decided to grab a cup of ice-blended chocolate first elsewhere. That turned out to be a bad idea since immediately after the first sip, I felt my tummy start to grumble. Ugh. I remember one time she to

The biggest lies ever

I was on my way to dinner when I vibered her. Me: Nasa bus na nga wahaha. A couple of minutes later, I got a reply saying how my previous message was the equivalent of one of the biggest lies in the history of mankind. What followed was the definitive guide to the most deceptive, cunning, ingenious, and innovative falsehoods ever. Or at least, we believe it is. I must have looked like a madman as I was laughing on my own, on my side of the bus, while scrolling through the items on the list. So, what exactly was on that list? 1. "I love you." - While commonly it's supposed to be a romantic, cheesy phrase, bringing forth an army of fluttering butterflies inside your stomach, we all know how emotionally draining and exhausting these words are. This is true especially when after hearing those three simple syllables countless times, you still end up being broken and left behind. We both agree on this one. /bitter 2. "I have read the terms and conditions.
